Welcome to Bert & Betty’s web site where there is something for everyone – quizzes and special offers for schools, presentation packs for retailers and, most importantly, stories and poems for children as well as pictures to colour in and quizzes and puzzles which can be downloaded and enjoyed by all. There is also an introduction to the boat people – which describes not only Bert & Betty, but also hints at what life was like for the real boaters in Victorian times – and, finally, there is the background to how Bert & Betty came into existence! Enjoy it all and do email us if you have any queries, suggestions or requests for more information or something else fun to do… |

The Bert & Betty books are children's stories about the boat people who lived and worked on England's canals in the 19th century. "Spring Morning" (in which Ben gets lost but is then the hero) is the first story of the series, which includes "Stop Thief!" (in which a little boy is found hiding in Bella's hold) and "Betty's Birthday" (in which Beauty going lame turns out to be the best thing that could have happended for all of them!). The companion picture dictionary "Waterways Words" illustrates and explains the boating terms used in the stories. |
As well as the Bert and Betty series of stories – which are for children of about 5 to 8 years old – there is a series for much younger children. These books are poems to help little ones learn their numbers and colours and the names of the babies on the canals (and, in the future, their letters, opposites, etc.). |
